Eee PC Models
The Asus Eee PC is a mininotebook developed by Asus that has built up a large following since its release in 2007.
The following Eee PC models are currently available to buy in the UK.
Asus have stated that the three E’s in the name derive from advertising mantra for the system :
“Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play”
although later campaigns also play on the three E’s with a different slogan :
“Experience Easy, Excellent and Exciting Computing”
Given the relative inexpensive cost of the Eee PC, it is an ideal first laptop for kids, students or even professionals that need portable computing power, without the worry of losing or damaging an expensive piece of kit.
Most Eee PC models come equipped with a version of the Linux operating system as standard as opposed to the more common Windows XP or Vista systems (although it is possible to install Windows on an Eee PC or buy it pre-installed).
The Linux operating system helps keep the cost of the Eee PC down as Asus do not have to pay the ‘Microsoft Tax’ and in fact, is better suited to such a portable device as it makes less demands on the hardware, resulting in a longer battery life.
